Careers in the Biological Sciences and Healthcare-related fields are projected to experience significant growth and will outpace other occupational fields between 2022 and 2032, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor & Statistics. Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Biology at Molloy University prepares students to excel in graduate studies and various careers in scientific research, teaching, medicine, dentistry, and beyond. Molloy alumni have pursued diverse careers in biological sciences and healthcare, with many gaining admission to renowned Medical, Dental, and Physician Assistant programs.

What To Expect From a Concentration in Biology at Molloy

We offer three separate study tracks supported within the B.S. degree program in Biology:

  • Pre-Professional Medical Programs and Graduate Studies: Prepares students for medical, dental, or veterinary school — or other graduate studies.
  • Pre-Allied Medical Programs: Prepares students for physician assistant, physical therapy, and occupational therapy graduate programs.
  • General Biological Sciences: Emphasizes field experience for students, which is a substantial preparation for future job placement.

We also provide a faculty-guided research series: a three-semester research experience working directly with faculty on a novel project. Students in the research series present at regional, national, and international conferences and prepare a thesis ready for peer-reviewed journals.

Gain Access to State-the-Art Lab Equipment

The National Science Foundation (NSF) Research Instrumentation Award gives our biology students access to state-of-the-art research instrumentation called the AxioObserver 7 — a live-cell imaging system. This access provides invaluable hands-on experience with cutting-edge technology, enhancing your understanding and skills in biological research, which is essential for both academic and professional success in the field.

Our Molloy and Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) Early Acceptance Program

LECOM student

You can apply to the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM), the nation’s largest medical college, through our Molloy/LECOM Early Acceptance Program (EAP). The EAP gives students provisional acceptance into LECOM’s excellent medical school — before you even begin your undergraduate career. If you’re considering a career in medicine, dentistry, or pharmacy, this unique program may be right for you.

LECOM Professional School (EAP) Program Description

The LECOM professional school Early Acceptance Program (EAP) allows qualified students pursuing a B.S. in Biology Pre-Med, Pre-Dental, or Pre-Pharmacy at Molloy University to be given a provisional early acceptance to LECOM’s School of Pharmacy, School of Dental Medicine, or College of Osteopathic Medicine. This is granted upon completion of a successful interview. Students can apply for EAP consideration starting from their senior year of high school up until the beginning of their third year of undergraduate studies.

How To Apply

You can apply to enroll in the EAP using the following steps:

  1. Follow the link “Early acceptance program Inquiry” found on the My LECOM Portal.
  2. LECOM will review the application, and if you meet the requirements, LECOM will offer a list of EAP self-schedule interview dates.
  3. Following a successful interview, LECOM will notify you that you qualify for a provisional letter of acceptance. You’ll be enrolled for participation upon approval by the affiliated institution and submission of your school email address to LECOM.
  4. A provisional letter of acceptance will be sent to you and your affiliated institution.

LECOM EAP Program Advantages

  • No need for submission of PCAT or MCAT scores.
  • Secured seat, bypassing nearly 95% of competition.
  • Lower tuition compared to other medical, dental, and pharmacy schools.
  • Selection from three Pharmacy site options.
  • Enrollment opportunity at the largest medical school in the country.
  • No requirement for an additional interview.
  • Cost savings by avoiding applications to multiple schools.

Requirements for LECOM (EAP) Program

Additional requirements, such as completing a final application to LECOM, are necessary for final acceptance into the institution. However, another interview won’t be required. While the specific criteria for acceptance into the program may differ between schools, the general requirements are outlined below:

  • A high school GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale or higher.
  • Students already attending the affiliate institution must have at least a cumulative overall GPA of 3.4 and a science GPA of 3.2 or higher.
