Admissions Criteria to the Master of Science in Music Therapy


To be considered for admission into the Master of Science in Music Therapy degree program, applicants must meet the following criteria:

· Completed an undergraduate degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 overall. (Students with a GPA between 2.8 and 3.0 may be accepted on a probationary status.)

· Completed undergraduate coursework in Abnormal Psychology and Developmental Psychology.*

· Completed undergraduate coursework (or meet competencies) in Music Theory, Sight Singing/Aural Skills, and Music History.*

· Proficient in accompanying their own singing on both piano and guitar.

· Provide proof of vaccination (measles, mumps, rubella, consistent with New York State Law #2165), and comply with all health policies related to Covid-19 to complete clinical fieldwork requirements for this degree program.

*Applicants without prerequisite coursework in Abnormal Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Music Theory, Sight Singing/Aural Skills, and/or Music History may be required to complete prerequisite coursework prior to meet appropriate levels of competency prior to beginning graduate study.

 

Application Process


 

· Complete the graduate degree program application.

· Submit official transcripts from all colleges and universities previously attended.

· Submit three letters of reference from former college professors and/or professional associates.

· On the basis of invitation, complete an audition and interview (includes improvisation and sightreading activities) with department faculty. More information is outlined in our Audition Requirements.
