Program Background and Description
The rapid transition to telemental health (TMH) during the COVID-19 pandemic led to wide acceptance and utility of TMH among mental health providers. Despite its many benefits, are providers aware of the professional, practical, and ethical pitfalls of TMH practice? If so, do they have the strategies to mitigate those pitfalls? This presentation will present best practices, while simultaneously challenging these practices and illuminating potential shortcomings of TMH delivery. Attendees will learn to anticipate these challenges in their daily practice, develop strategies to mitigate their impact, and to continue to provide clinical services via TMH that are effective, ethical, equitable, and accessible.

Learning Objectives:  At the conclusion of this webinar, attendees will be able to:
- Explain the historical development of TMH from its origins to our current practice,
- Identify best practices in delivering TMH counseling individually and in groups,
-  Identify legal, ethical, and professional challenges to the delivery of TMH, including issues of equity and access, and
- Demonstrate strategies to reduce the impact of these challenges and to fully integrate client and counselor positionality into the counseling setting.
