The Clinical Mental Health Counseling Master of Science program will be hosting it's Fourth Annual Interdisciplinary Mental Health Conference on March 10, 2017 at the Rockville Centre campus.
We are pleased to announce that Dr. Gabor Maté, a renowned speaker, and bestselling author has been confirmed as one of our speakers. Dr. Gabor Maté is highly sought after for his expertise on a range of topics including addiction, stress and childhood development.

Program Background and Description
Molloy University is a nationally recognized private, Long Island college. Molloy provides a value-centered, multidimensional liberal arts education with more than 50 quality academic undergraduate and graduate degree programs grounded in the Catholic faith, ideals of truth and respect for the dignity and worth of every individual.
Our unique conference will cover both conventional and unconventional approaches in the treatment and healing of addictions.
The conference will cover how the substance abuse epidemic is impacting our local demographic area, review current and medical treatment options for substance abuse, as presented by Dr. Karl Dormesy, a psychiatrist and substance abuse expert and Medical Director at the Outpatient Behavioral Health Services at Mercy Medical Center.
We will then discuss additional approaches as presented by our Keynote Speaker, Dr. Gabor Maté. According to Dr. Maté, the source of addictions is not to be found in genes, but in the early childhood environment. In The Realm Of Hungry Ghosts: In The Realm of Hungry Ghosts: Close Encounters With Addiction, Dr. Maté's most recent best-selling book, draws on cutting-edge science to illuminate where and how addictions originate and calls for a more compassionate approach toward the addict. In The Realm of Hungry Ghosts, explores addiction as a symptom of distress, from the pain of individual trauma and family history to the spiritual emptiness pervading our entire society. Dr. Maté weaves brain science, case studies, personal testimony, and social critique into a powerful and kaleidoscopic look at one of our culture's most perplexing epidemics. In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts won the 2010 Hubert Evans Award for Best BC Non-Fiction Book. We will close our conference with a panel discussion in which different professionals from the mental health field are represented, including addictions counseling, clinical mental health counseling, creative arts therapy, psychiatry, psychology, and social work. The discussants will review several points with Dr. Maté from the lectures and interact with audience members. The conference will include introductory experiential exercises in breathing and mindfulness that can be used by everyone and therapeutic skills that professionals can implement in their clinical work.

Dr. Gabor Maté - Keynote Speaker Bio
A renowned speaker, and bestselling author, Dr. Gabor Maté is highly sought after for his expertise on a range of topics, from addiction to mind-body wellness. Rather than offering quick-fix solutions to these complex issues, Dr. Maté weaves together scientific research, case histories, and his own insights and experience to present a broad perspective that enlightens and empowers people to promote their own healing and that of those around them.
As an author, Dr. Maté has written several bestselling books including the award-winning: In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts: Close Encounters with Addiction. His works have been published internationally in twenty languages.
Dr. Maté is the co-founder of Compassion for Addiction, a new non-profit that focusses on addiction. He is also an advisor of Drugs over Dinner.
Dr. Maté has received the Hubert Evans Prize for Literary Non-Fiction; an Honorary Degree (Law) from the University of Northern British Columbia; an Outstanding Alumnus Award from Simon Fraser University; and the 2012 Martin Luther King Humanitarian Award from Mothers Against Teen Violence. He is an adjunct professor in the Faculty of Criminology, Simon Fraser University.

Online registration is available by clicking here. Please note that if you are registering online, after you enter your charge card information you should click "Continue to Checkout" just once. It can take up to a minute or two for the charge to be processed. If you click more than once the system will void the registration and you will need to call the CE Office at 516-323-3550 to register.

Registration is limited. In-person registration the day of the conference is on a space available basis and cannot be guaranteed.
Refund Policy: A full refund will be granted as long as you contact us by March 9. Refunds will not be granted after March 9: however, substitutions can be made until the day of the conference at no charge.
Location
The conference will be given in the Madison Theatre in the Public Square Building at Molloy's Rockville Centre campus located at 1000 Hempstead Avenue, Rockville Centre, NY, 11571. The campus is located about 40 minutes east of New York City by train on Long Island.
Continuing Education Credit
Licensed Mental Health Counselors (LMHCs)
As of January 1, 2017 a new law took effect in NY State that requires that each mental health counselor licensed under the Education Law, must complete 36 hours of continuing education (CE) from a Department approved provider during each three-year registration period. Molloy University, Division of Continuing Education & Professional Development is recognized by the New York State Education Department's State Board for Mental Health Practitioners as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed mental health counselors. #MHC-0052. This conference is offered for four (4) CE contact hours for Licensed Mental Health Counselors (LMHCs). NYS Licensed Creative Arts Therapists (LCATs)
As of January 1, 2017 a new law took effect in NY State that requires that creative arts therapists licensed under the Education Law, must complete 36 hours of continuing education (CE) from a Department approved provider during each three-year registration period. Molloy University is an approved provider for CE credit from NY State for Licensed Creative Arts Therapists: approval number CAT-0015. This program is offered for 4 hours of CEU credit for Licensed Creative Arts Therapists.
Social Work Continuing Education Credit
CEU's for NYS Licensed Social Workers: Molloy University, Continuing Education & Professional Development Social Work CPE is recognized by the New York State Education Department's State Board for Social Work as an approved provider of continuing education for licensed social workers #0110. This program is approved for a total of four (4) CE contact hours for NYS Licensed Social Workers.
Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselors (CASAC)
CE credit through the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (NYS-OASAS) has been approved for 4 clock hours in the following areas:
Initial Credentialing: CPP and CPS

Nursing Continuing Education Credit
Molloy University, Continuing Education Department, is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the New Jersey State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses' Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. 4 contact hours for the conference will be given.

Exhibitor Information
Sorry- we are sold-out of exhibit space! A limited number of exhibitors will be permitted for the conference. The fee to exhibit is $400 ($200 non-profit) for the day, from 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. Space is limited, so only 6 exhibitors will be able to attend. Exhibitors will be provided with a 6 ft. table and one conference admission (additional admission: $50 each). The exhibit tables will be in the lobby of the Madison Theatre (where the breakfast, all of the sessions and the morning break will be held).
The Clinical Mental Health Counseling Masters of Science program and Mercy Medical Center will be hosting the conference and the conference is being sponsored by the New York Mental Health Counselors Association (NYMHCA) and the Long Island Chapter, LINYMHCA.
