Scholarships and Grants


Many full and partial tuition scholarships are available to entering full-time students at Molloy University. Full-time is defined as a minimum of 12 credits per semester. Most scholarships are based entirely on academic records, without regard for need. Others are awarded based on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and a student’s personal abilities and talents. Students with a high average and rank in class will automatically be reviewed for scholarship consideration. Students with a strong SAT or ACT scores should also consider submitting their scores, however these scores are optional.

  • First Year Students

     

    A large number of scholarships are available to entering first year students at Molloy University. Merit scholarships are based entirely on academic record, without regard for need. Students will automatically be considered for scholarships which are based upon their academic profile.

     

    ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AWARD: These partial tuition scholarships, ranging from $3,000 to $5,000 a year, are based on academic achievement. Recipients must be a first semester full-time first year student and must maintain at least a 2.5 cumulative index for a maximum of 8 consecutive semesters for renewal. Recipients must also file the required financial aid applications annually for renewal of this scholarship.

     

    ATHLETIC GRANT: Awards ranging from partial to full tuition grants are given to full-time students based upon athletic ability. Awards are determined by the Athletic Department. Recipients must maintain a minimum cumulative index of 2.0, file the required financial aid applications annually, and continue to participate in the sport for which the grant was awarded.

     

    COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD: Partial tuition awards ranging from $500 to $5,000 per year are awarded to first semester full-time first year students who have demonstrated a commitment to their community and school. They are renewable annually for a maximum of 8 consecutive semesters. Criteria for renewal are a minimum GPA of 2.5 and continued commitment to community service through university activities.

     

    DEANS SCHOLARSHIP: These partial tuition scholarships, ranging from $3,000 to $5,000 a year, are based upon academic achievement. Recipients must be a first semester full-time first year student and must maintain at least a 2.5 cumulative index for a maximum of 8 consecutive semesters for renewal. Recipients must also file the required financial aid applications annually for renewal of this scholarship.

     

    EAGLE SCOUT AWARD SCHOLARSHIP: A scholarship of $1,000, per academic year, is awarded to a first-semester full-time first-year student who is an Eagle Scout Award recipient. Molloy University is proud to offer a limited number of these special incentive awards to talented young men to encourage educational success. Students must submit proof of Eagle Scout status to the Office of Admissions for consideration.

     

    FINE ARTS SCHOLARSHIP: These scholarships are awarded to full-time first-year students who are adjudged to have exceptional talent or have achieved proficiency in art or music. Qualifications are demonstrated through audition, the submission of a portfolio, or other documented experience. Recipients must major in the areas for which the scholarships are awarded and maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative average for a maximum of 8 consecutive semesters for renewal. Recipients must also file the required financial aid applications annually for renewal of this scholarship.

     

    FUNDED SCHOLARSHIPS: A number of donor-funded scholarships are available for first-semester full-time first-year students. These scholarships are based on donor-defined criteria, and award amounts vary. Some of the scholarships are a one-time award and others are renewable annually. Potential candidates are identified by the Office of Admissions.

     

    GIRL SCOUT GOLD AWARD SCHOLARSHIP: A scholarship of $1,000 per academic year is awarded to a first semester full-time first year student who is a Girl Scout Gold Award recipient. Molloy University is proud to offer a limited number of these special incentive awards to talented young women to encourage educational success. Students must submit proof of Girl Scout Gold status to the Office of Admissions for consideration.

     

    HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLAR'S GRANT: Grants of $1,000 are awarded to students who have completed a Molloy University course in high school and who enroll as a first semester full-time first year student at Molloy. The grant is renewable for up to four years of full-time undergraduate study. Grant recipients are required to maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA and file the FAFSA for each year of enrollment at Molloy.

     

    MOLLOY SCHOLAR: A limited number of full tuition scholarships are available for first semester full-time first year students. Awards are based on academic achievement and standardized test scores. These awards are competitive, and students must apply for admission by December 1st. Minimum eligibility requirements for consideration are a 95% unweighted high school academic average and either a minimum score of 1380 combined from evidence-based reading and writing (EBRW) and math on the SAT, or a 31 on the ACT. Since these awards are highly competitive, consideration for eligibility does not guarantee this award. Students must maintain a minimum cumulative index of 3.5 for a maximum of 8 consecutive semesters taking a maximum of 16 credits each semester for renewal. Recipients must also file the required financial aid applications annually for renewal of this scholarship.

     

    PRESIDENTIAL DOMINICAN ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP: These partial tuition scholarships, range from $10,000 to $30,000 a year, and are based on academic achievement. Priority is given to students who apply for admission by March 1st. Recipients must be first semester full-time first year students, and must maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative index for a maximum of 8 consecutive semesters for renewal. Recipients must also file the required financial aid applications annually for renewal of this scholarship.

     

    TUITION REDUCTION FOR RELATIVES: A tuition reduction of $1,000 per academic year is granted to the lower classman attending full time when more than one member of an immediate family, living in the same household, is enrolled as a full-time student at the university.

     

    Tuition Reduction for Sibling-Attending Parochial School: A reduction in tuition of $1,000 per academic year is granted to a Molloy student attending full-time when one or more members of the immediate family, living in the same household, is enrolled in a parochial school. Contact the Office of Financial Aid for additional information.

     

  • Transfer Students

    PHI THETA KAPPA SCHOLARSHIP: These scholarships of $1,000 per academic year are awarded to undergraduate transfer students who are members of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society at their Community Colleges. Recipients must maintain a 3.0 GPA and file the required financial aid applications annually for scholarship renewal.

     

    STAY ON LONG ISLAND (SOLI) SCHOLARSHIP: Molloy University proudly participates as a partner with Nassau and Suffolk Community Colleges in the Stay on Long Island Scholarship initiative. Potential candidates for the full-tuition award are nominated by the Community Colleges based upon superior academic achievement, campus and community activities and service, and student leadership. Candidates must have applied to Molloy for transfer admission by March 1st. The University scholarship committee will select the recipient. The scholarship is automatically renewed each semester provided the recipient attends on a full-time basis and maintains at least a 3.5 average each semester. Nursing majors are not eligible.

     

    TOUCHING LIVES SCHOLARSHIP: These scholarships of $4,000 per academic year are awarded to undergraduate transfer students who are Social Work majors. Students must have completed at least 30 credits of full-time coursework at a previous college, with a minimum GPA of 2.7. Renewal of this scholarship is contingent upon maintaining a cumulative GPA of 2.7 as a Social Work major and attending on a full-time basis. Recipients must also file the required financial aid applications annually for scholarship renewal. This scholarship is renewable annually up to a maximum of 6 consecutive semesters.

     

    TRANSFER ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AWARD: These scholarships ranging from $5,000 to $10,000 per academic year are awarded to full-time undergraduate transfer students who have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and have completed at least 30 credits of course work at a previous college. Renewal of this scholarship is contingent upon maintaining a cumulative GPA of 2.5 and attending on a full-time basis. Recipients must also file the required financial aid applications annually for scholarship renewal. Nursing majors are not eligible to receive this award.

     

    TRANSFER SCHOLARSHIPS: Scholarships ranging from $1,500 to $5,000 per academic year are awarded to full-time undergraduate transfer students who have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and have completed at least 30 credits of coursework at a previous college. For nursing majors, a 3.3 cumulative GPA is required. Renewal of this scholarship is contingent upon maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and attending on a full time basis. Recipients must also file the required financial aid applications annually for scholarship renewal.

  • Continuing Students

    A number of scholarships are available for continuing students in various award amounts. Application for the funded scholarships for continuing students can be found at the Financial Aid Office (W236) at the beginning of December each Academic Year. Some funded scholarships for continuing students are selected by their academic departments. Check with your academic department to see if you qualify for any scholarships or grants.  

     

    Aloysius J. Gabriel Memorial Scholarship: Partial tuition scholarship awarded to a continuing student enrolled full-time. Applicants must have completed Accounting I. Award amounts vary; one-time scholarship.

     

    Beatrice M. Duffy Memorial Scholarship: Partial tuition scholarship awarded to a senior enrolled full-time. Applicants must be education majors and have a minimum of a 3.3 G.P.A. Award amounts vary; one-time scholarship. Application is made through the Division of Education.

     

    Bermingham Scholarship: Partial tuition scholarship awarded to a continuing student enrolled full-time. Applicants must have a  minimum of a 2.5 G.P.A. Award amounts vary; one-time scholarship.

     

    Brother James Kearney Scholarship for the Blind, (Lavelle Fund For the Blind, Inc): The Brother James Kearney Scholarship for the Blind aims to help make quality undergraduate and graduate education affordable for financially needy U.S. residents who are legally blind.  ELIGIBILITY: Students must be studying at one of 11 participating colleges and universities, both undergraduate and graduate students. Either legally blind or so severely visually impaired, and must demonstrate financial need as defined by the student's college (based on FAFSA data). A legal resident of the United States. Enrolled full-time, studying for a degree or valid professional certificate, and in good standing (not suspended or on probation).     Catherine Umbach Giammarino Memorial Scholarship: Partial tuition scholarship awarded to a senior enrolled full-time. Applicants must be music therapy majors and have a minimum of a 3.0 G.P.A. Award amounts vary; one-time scholarship.

     

    Charles R. Hanley Memorial Scholarship: Partial tuition scholarship awarded to a continuing student enrolled full-time. Applicants must be nursing majors and have a minimum of a 3.0 G.P.A. Award amounts vary; one-time scholarship.

     

    Dematteis Nursing Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded to juniors and seniors who have demonstrated superior academic performance, as well as involvement in community service and have demonstrated unmet financial need. Students must meet certain requirements of the nursing program and maintain a 3.5 G.P.A.

     

    Dorothy M. And Charles H. Schneider Business Scholarship: Partial tuition scholarship awarded to a continuing student enrolled full-time. Applicants must be business majors. Award amounts vary; one-time scholarship.

     

    Frances A. Gabriel Scholarship: Partial tuition scholarship awarded to a sophomore enrolled full-time. Applicants must be accounting majors. Award amounts vary; one-time scholarship.

     

    Francesca Maria Paone Memorial Scholarship: Partial tuition scholarship awarded to a junior enrolled full-time. Applicants must be nursing majors and have a minimum of a 3.2 G.P.A. Award amounts vary; one-time scholarship.

     

    Frances B. Houlihan Memorial Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded to a full-time nursing major who has demonstrated financial need.

     

    Funded Scholarships for Continuing Students (through academic departments): A number of scholarships are available for continuing students for various award amounts. Application is made for the funded scholarships for continuing students through the academic department as noted.

     

    Joan Ford Communication Arts Scholarship: Partial tuition scholarship awarded to a junior enrolled full-time. Applicants must be communications majors and have a minimum of a 3.0 G.P.A. Award amounts vary; one-time scholarship.

     

    John Robert Hanley Memorial Scholarship: Partial tuition scholarship awarded to a continuing student enrolled full-time. Applicants must be nursing majors and have a minimum of a 3.0 G.P.A. Award amounts vary; one-time scholarship.

     

    Karen B. Sciolino Memorial Fund: Partial tuition scholarship awarded to a junior enrolled full-time. Applicants must be nursing majors and have a minimum of a 3.0 G.P.A. Award amounts vary; one-time scholarship.

     

    Murley Henderson Science Scholarship: Partial tuition scholarship awarded to a continuing student enrolled full-time. Applicants must be science majors and have a minimum of a 3.0 G.P.A. Award amounts vary; one-time scholarship.

     

    Neidich-Ryder Biology Scholarship: Partial tuition scholarship awarded to a continuing student enrolled full-time. Applicants must be biology majors. Award amounts vary; one-time scholarship.

     

    Nuclear Medicine Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded to a nuclear medicine student entering into the second year of the program who has demonstrated financial need.

     

    Robert and Madeline Mershon Scholarship: Partial tuition scholarship awarded to a junior enrolled full-time. Applicants must be English or Philosophy majors and have a minimum of a 2.5 G.P.A. Award amounts vary; one-time scholarship.

     

    Rosalie Goffner Scholarship: Partial tuition scholarship awarded to a junior enrolled full-time. Applicants must be sociology majors. Award amounts vary; one-time scholarship.

     

    Salvatore Milone Scholarship: Partial tuition scholarship awarded to a continuing student enrolled full-time. Applicants must have a minimum of a 2.5 G.P.A. Award amounts vary; one-time scholarship.

     

    Sister Camille Moffatt, O.P. Scholarship: Partial tuition scholarship awarded to a third-year nursing student enrolled full-time. Applicants must have aa minimum of a 2.5 G.P.A. Award amounts vary; one-time scholarship.

     

    Sister Celeste Beck, O.P.  Alumni Scholarship:Partial tuition scholarship awarded to a continuing student enrolled full-time. Applicants must be nursing majors and have a minimum of a 3.0 G.P.A. Award amounts vary; one-time scholarship.

     

    Sister Katherine Gee, O.P. Scholarship: Partial tuition scholarship awarded to a continuing student enrolled full-time. Applicants must have aa minimum of a 2.5 G.P.A. Award amounts vary; one-time scholarship.

     

    Victoria Wolf Gabriel Scholarship: Partial tuition scholarship awarded to a continuing student enrolled full-time. Applicants must have aa minimum of a 2.5 G.P.A. and completed ENG 110. Award amounts vary; one-time scholarship.

     

    William Davis Scholarship: Partial tuition scholarship awarded to a junior enrolled full-time. Applicants must be Psychology majors and have a  minimum of a 3.0 G.P.A. Award amounts vary; one-time scholarship.

     

     

    Richard T. Murray Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded by the business division to a full-time student(s) who achieved junior level status majoring in accounting or is enrolled in the M.B.A. program; students must maintain a 3.0 G.P.A. No person funded by their employer can be considered.

     

    Sister Mary Denis McAuliffe, C.I.J. Award: Partial tuition scholarship awarded to a student enrolled in the final semester of the cardiovascular technology program. Award amounts vary; one-time scholarship. Application is made through the allied health sciences department.

     

    Sister Rose Teresa Amor, O.P. Global Learning Travel Fund: This scholarship is awarded to a full-time student who is planning to study abroad in a short travel program. The student must be employed part-time and have a minimum cumulative index of 3.0.

     

    Sister Rose Teresa Amor, O.P. Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded to a full-time student to help defray the cost of a student's semester study abroad effort.

     

    William H. McDonnell "Commitment to Education'' Scholarship: Partial tuition scholarship awarded to a continuing student enrolled full-time. Applicants must be education majors. Award amounts vary; one-time scholarship. Application is made through the education department. Essay required.

    A number of additional scholarships are available for continuing students for various award amounts. Application is made for the funded scholarships for continuing students through the academic department as noted.

  • Graduate Students

     

    ATHLETIC GRANT: Awards ranging from partial to full tuition grants are given to full-time students based upon athletic ability. Awards are determined by the Athletic Department. Recipients must maintain a minimum cumulative index of 2.0, file the required financial aid applications annually, and continue to participate in the sport for which the grant was awarded.

     

    CLINICAL MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELING SCHOLARSHIP: Financial awards of up to $10,000 per academic year are awarded to incoming CMHC graduate students who demonstrate the programs goals of enhancing professional identity, core knowledge, necessary state-of-the-art practical skills, and multicultural sensitivity.  Recipients must maintain a minimum 3.0 grade point average and register for a minimum of 6 credits per semester.  The scholarship is renewable annually for 3 consecutive years.

     

    GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIPS: Molloy offers a limited number of Graduate Assistantships to students enrolled in graduate programs. Graduate Assistants must be enrolled in a minimum of six graduate credits during the semester(s) of the assistantship.  Awards include a 3 credits of tuition compensation and a $500 stipend per semester.  To apply for a Graduate Assistantship, candidates should complete the Application for Graduate Assistantship.
