Applied Sociological Research Minor

The applied sociological research minor offered by the Sociology Department is designed to help students gain transferable knowledge and skills in empirical social science that they can use in support of communities, public and private organizations, and all types of industries. Applied sociology uses sociological concepts and techniques to improve human wellbeing and serve the needs of specific clients and communities. This training helps students learn to develop research findings that answer specific questions and translate them into solutions and interventions to address real world problems.

Students learn the basic foundations of social theory and research with a focus on putting sociology into practice and developing skills for communicating and collaborating with diverse stakeholders. They will also gain crucial skills in high demand by employers such as evaluating the impacts of a policy, establishing evidence-based guidelines, and gauging the needs of a population.
