The School of Arts & Sciences offers almost fifty minors covering a variety of academic areas of interest. These minors provide you with an opportunity to study your other passions and can easily be added as a complement to your chosen major study. Most of the minors can be completed within 15-18 credits. American Studies Minor

Anthropology Minor

The Department offers a 15-credit minor in Anthropology. A minor in Anthropology provides you with immersion and understanding of a vast array of culturally diverse groups and communities. If you are interested in human origins, ancient worlds, or global community, the minor in Anthropology is for you. Applied Ethics Minor

Few topics today are as relevant as ethics is to nearly every field, every career and every major. The Applied Ethics Minor adds an edge to the resume of students interested in law, business, medicine, education, social policy and the environment. Applied Sociological Research Minor

The applied sociological research minor is designed to help students gain transferable knowledge and skills in empirical social science that they can use in support of communities, public and private organizations, and all types of industries. Applied sociology uses sociological concepts and techniques to improve human wellbeing and serve the needs of specific clients and communities. This training helps students learn to develop research findings that answer specific questions and translate them into solutions and interventions to address real world problems.

Students learn the basic foundations of social theory and research with a focus on putting sociology into practice and developing skills for communicating and collaborating with diverse stakeholders. They will also gain crucial skills in high demand by employers such as evaluating the impacts of a policy, establishing evidence-based guidelines, and gauging the needs of a population.

Art History Minor

The Art History minor enhances the historical and cultural knowledge of students in various disciplines, including Fine Arts, Visual Arts Education, Anthropology, Sociology, Psychology, Education, Gallery/Museum Studies, New Media and other areas. Art Therapy Minor

An Art Therapy minor will enhance the skills of students in a range of disciplines, including Fine Arts, Visual Arts Education, Early Childhood Education, Special Education, Psychology, Sociology, Speech Pathology, Music Therapy, Social Work and Nursing. Students will use tactile-visual skills of artistic expression that promote social, emotional, psychological, physical and spiritual health. Two and three-dimensional art and theoretical conceptual materials are explored and examined within the use of arts for healing. Bioethics Minor

Bioethics, the study of ethical issues related to medicine and the biological sciences, is a field of growing importance and popularity.  Students pursuing careers in health care, human services, or the biological sciences benefit from the study of ethical issues that they may encounter in their future careers. Additionally, all students can benefit from the study of ethical topics they will encounter in their future lives as individuals, global citizens, and ethical leaders. The bioethics minor equips students with the ability to critically analyze major ethical issues in bioethics related to medical ethics, the health of the broader community, the value-laden nature of medicine and science, and bias and discrimination in health care.

Biology Minor

The Biology, Chemistry, Earth & Environmental Science department offers a minor in Biology that will prepare you for a variety of scientific and healthcare careers. The biology minor is available to any major and requires 18 credits, including 2 semesters of either Anatomy and Physiology or General Biology, Microbiology and 6 additional credits in biology at the 2000-level or above.  Nursing majors, after successfully completing their required biology courses, need only to complete an additional 4 credits in Biology to earn the biology minor. Chemistry Minor

The Biology, Chemistry, Earth & Environmental Science department offers a minor in Chemistry that will prepare you for a variety of scientific and healthcare careers. The chemistry minor is earned upon successful completion of the Pre-Professional Medical Programs and General Biology track of the Biology B.S. degree.  The Chemistry minor is also available to any major and requires 18 credits of chemistry courses, which include semesters of Inorganic Chemistry and 2 semesters of Organic Chemistry. Child Life Minor

The minor in "Child Life" is designed specifically for healthcare, education or social service students, or for those who aim at having a career working with children. The growing presence of "Child Life" departments in hospitals has generated a demand for professionals with a "Child Life" background. The following six required minor courses and the additional four general education courses expose a student to ten courses in the educational background of a "Child Life" professional.

Cybersecurity and Digital Forensics Minor

The Department of Criminal Studies in the School of Arts and Sciences and the School of Business have co-developed a minor in Cybersecurity. It is built on a comprehensive understanding of the field that will have practical application. The program of study provides students with knowledge of computer security, basic information on computers, networking skills, understanding the internet, learning how to do investigations, knowledge of the law, understanding forensics and more. Students will develop the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to enter the field of cybersecurity. Students completing the minor will receive a certificate indicating their newly learned skill as well as having the notation of the minor on their transcripts.

Digital Arts Minor

The knowledge and skills offered by the Digital Art minor aligns with the needs of students who are pursuing a variety of majors such as Business Management, Communications, Computer Science, Fashion Industry, Graphic Design, Marketing, New Media, Psychology and the Sciences. The courses provide opportunities for basic exploration in the areas of digital art encompassing the Adobe Creative Suite software programs of Illustrator and Photoshop through a variety of fine arts, illustration and graphic design projects. The Diversity and Inclusion Studies minor, a 15-credit minor, is an interdisciplinary program of study allowing you to develop an understanding of the components of diversity, inclusion, power and privilege, which include intersectional identities impacted by race, ethnicity, culture, gender, sexuality, religion, language, social class, aging, and disability. This minor supports any major/profession that involves encounters, interactions, and work with diverse populations and is available regardless of your choice in major. Game Studies Minor

The Communications department now offers a Game Studies minor. The ascendancy of gaming as a mainstream, professional career option offers opportunities that require new media skills and acute awareness of contemporary issues and debates in this rapidly growing industry. Through hands-on learning experiences, students will learn game design fundamentals as well as media production skills, common practices, and ethics related to careers in gaming and live streaming. Graphic Design Minor

The knowledge offered by the Graphic Design minor aligns with the needs of students who are pursuing a variety of majors such as Marketing, Finance, Business Management, Accounting, Economics, Computer Science, Psychology, Communications and New Media. History Minor

The minor in history provides students with a solid foundation in United States and European history (12 credits) with the opportunity to also take electives (6 credits) in areas such as World History. A minor in History would be valuable to students who wish to attend Law School, enter the business world, or become a journalist, political scientist, librarian, or sociologist, among other careers. Latin American and Latino Studies Minor

The Minor in Latin American and Latino Studies (LALS) is an interdisciplinary program of study that provides students with a comprehensive understanding of Latin American, Caribbean, and Latino cultures and societies, including history, language, economics, politics, literature, and arts. This interdisciplinary knowledge and cross-cultural skills can be applied in a wide array of fields such as community advocacy, business, education, public policy, health sciences, journalism, and the arts, among others. This minor is designed for students in any program of Major who want to complement their knowledge and skills with the study of LALS.

The minor in Latin American and Latino Studies is a six-course minor (18 credit hours). Students have the opportunity to take courses on Latin American and Latino studies taught by faculty members from a wide range of departments at Molloy University.

Legal Studies Minor

The Legal Studies minor provides students with a foundation in law and its practical application. Individuals seeking to work in the legal professions or as a paralegal*, those pursuing law school and students whose careers will interact with the law can all benefit from this course of study. Successful completion of the minor automatically earns the student a Molloy Paralegal Studies Certificate. Students can be job ready when they graduate with the minor and certificate.

Music Minor

The School of Arts and Sciences offers a Music Minor that gives students a holistic overview of the discipline of music. Students can choose up to 11 credits of elective courses in music, which may include applied lessons in an instrument or voice, courses related to the history and performance practice of music, courses in music theory, and courses that make use of music technology, and music creation. Students may also join one of our ensembles, which include the Concert Choir, Vocal Ensemble, Opera Ensemble, Chamber Ensembles, Jazz Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, Guitar Ensemble, and Molloy Sinfonietta. Auditions are required for performance in our ensembles. A financial stipend is offered for qualified students performing in an ensemble..

Photography Minor

The Photography minor introduces students to the range of photographic processes, technologies and conceptual practices using digital techniques of Adobe Photoshop, and other applications to create a body of work. Students gain knowledge, experiences, technical aspects of digital photography and processes of digital imaging, editing and production. Physical Science Minor

Spanish for the Health Professions Minor

The minor in Spanish for Health Professions is designed specifically for healthcare students or those who aim at having a career in health-related fields. The growing presence of Hispanics in the United States has generated a demand for professionals with the linguistic skills to help a Spanish-speaking clientele. This minor is inestimably useful not only for Nursing students, but also for students in other departments, such as Allied Health, Biology, Music Therapy, Psychology, Social Work and Speech-Language Pathology/Audiology. Students are able to complete this minor in its entirety at the Rockville Centre campus. They can also take either up to six or nine credits in Spain by enrolling in the Molloy Summer Study Abroad Program at the University of León to count towards this minor. Studio Art Minor

A Studio Art minor will strengthen and benefit students in various disciplines such as Early Childhood Education, Psychology, Art Therapy and Social Work. Students will complete foundation studio art classes such as Two-Dimensional Design, Drawing, Three-Dimensional Design and other art courses. Students will use fundamental art concepts and techniques to explore, experiment and develop individual creative expression.
