Please note that the all the Home Inspection CE courses are now offered online via Zoom in real time.
Home inspectors in New York state are required to complete 24 hours of approved continuing education within their two-year license renewal period prior to the expiration date in order to renew their license. For more information on continuing education requirements contact the New York state Department of State Division of Licensing Services at 518.474.4429 or email licensing@dos.state.ny.us or visit their website at https://dos.ny.gov/home-inspector.
Tuition DiscountA discounted tuition price of $550 for people who pre-register for 24 hours of HI CE courses with Molloy University is available. That can result in a savings of up to $175 depending upon the individual courses that you might register for. To get the discount you will need to register for the, "Home Inspection 24 Hour CE Program Discount Course". Once registered for this "course" you will be able to register for the individual courses that you would like to take towards the 24 hour requirement. You do not have to select all the courses that you wish to register for at your time of registration in the discount course and there is no time limit to complete the 24 hours of coursework. However, you will need to pay for the entire $550 tuition upfront.

Inspecting Storm Damaged Houses (4 CE Hours) This 4 hour course will discuss inspecting storm damaged houses, both before and after repairs have been made to the house. With so many houses recently damaged from Hurricane Irene and Super Storm Sandy, this course will serve to broaden the knowledge base of home inspectors who practice in this area. The course will include an introduction to the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and its terminology; case studies of storm damaged houses; concerns such as structural, electrical and mold issues; strategies to minimize future storm impacts; and items to focus on in repaired houses, including generator installations.

New York State Home Inspection Code of Ethics And Standards of Practice (6 CE Hours)This course will cover the recently adopted Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice for Home Inspection in New York State. The Code of Ethics (Subpart 197-4) and Standards of Practice (Subpart 197-5) will be covered in detail. Strategies will be discussed in regard to complying with both the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice as well on how to implement the Standards of Practice into home inspection procedures. Specific examples will be discussed to highlight the new version of the Standards of Practice.

Introduction To Leed: Leadership In Energy And Environmental Design (4 CE Hours) This 4-hour-course will serve as an introduction to LEED 2009 for home inspectors. LEED is a green building program developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and is comprised of several rating systems including LEED for Homes. The basic concepts behind LEED and its effects on building design, construction and operation will be discussed.

Effective Report Writing Techniques (6 CE Hours)This course is approved for 6 hours of continuing education credit for Home Inspectors. In this course you will: learn how to protect themselves and clients in their reports; write effective, accurate, and concise reports; recognize and avoid possible ethical and legal problems; understand and choose appropriate report formats and understand what to include/exclude in reports.

Mold Is In The Air For Home Inspectors (6 CE Hours) This course is approved for 6 hours of continuing education credit for home inspectors. In this course you will: understand the responsibilities and limitations of the home inspector with regard to the identification of suspected mold; identify all means by which water, moisture and humidity can extrinsically and intrinsically penetrate the different components of a home; differentiate between different types of molds and how mold can impact the safety of the home inspector and occupants; visually differentiate between adequate and inadequate grading on a subject property; properly use report writing methods to protect the home inspector and his/her client, when suspected mold is visible; identify adequate ventilation in basements, crawl spaces, and attics.

Introduction to Residential Green Building (3 CE Hours) This 3 hour course will serve as an introduction to Residential Green Building for Home Inspectors. Green building is a constantly developing field which is being promoted by organizations such as the US Green Building Council (USGBC) and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB Green). The basic concepts of Green Building will be discussed as it applies to systems and components observed and reported on by Home Inspectors.

Introduction to Auxiliary ASHI Standards: Residential Pre-Drywall Inspections & Pool/Spa Inspections (2 CE Hours) This 2 hour course will introduce the home inspector to the
recently developed auxiliary ASHI (American Society of Home Inspectors) Standards of Professional Practice for Residential Pre-Drywall Inspections and Residential Pool and Spa Inspections. An overview of both the Pre-Drywall and Pool/Spa Auxiliary Standards will serve to broaden the knowledge base of both experienced and new home inspectors.

INSPECTING ROOFS AND ATTICS (3 CE Hours) At the conclusion of this course, attendees will be able to:
1- Identify the different styles of roofs that may be found on New York State residences.
2- Typical roof styles and materials used along with determining the most appropriate method to inspect the roof with an emphasis on observing best safety practices.
3- Identifying and reporting problems associated with roofs and roofing materials.
4- Inspect flashings, skylights, and chimneys, vent stacks and other penetrations and competently comment on their adequacy.
5 -Identify and collect appropriate information from the interior roof (Attic space) to help identify structural, insulation, different types of ventilation, and other issues that have an impact during a roof/attic inspection.

Home Inspection Q/A: 10 Second Rule (3 CE Hours) This 3 hour course will discuss several different aspects of Home Inspection in a unique and engaging format designed to maximize student participation and class discussions, both of which lead to increased learning and better student focus. Topics to be included are the basis for Modules 1 through 4: Structure, Exterior, Roofing, Electrical, Insulation, Ventilation, Heating, Cooling, Plumbing, License Law, Report Writing and Overview of the Profession. Students are encouraged to participate in groups responding to questions on the above topics. Water and Wastewater: Clean and Dirty (3 CE Hours) This 3 hour course will discuss inspecting water and wastewater systems in a typical home inspection. Both private and public water supply systems and wastewater disposal systems will be covered. Topics include the design and operation of both types of systems, including new and innovative designs, graywater systems, issues to focus on when inspecting these systems and environmental impacts such as sinkholes and degradation of both groundwater and surface water. Common defects and report writing techniques will be discussed. This course will expose Home Inspectors to concepts such as Green Infrastructure, Xeriscaping and "Green" design in water/wastewater systems.

Building Science 101 Course (6 CE Hours) This course is designed to introduce the home inspector to Building Science. By taking this course the student will learn several laws of physics that relate to how buildings perform in everyday weather climates.
The topics discuss include moisture, air and thermal resistance as they relate to residential houses. Additional discussion will include heating systems, cooling systems and domestic hot water systems and how to evaluate their efficiencies and safe operation of the systems.
The student will walk away with a better understanding of how the laws of physics affect the major building components and how they might be addressed in a home inspection report.

Understanding Moisture in Buildings (6 CE Hours) At the end of the course the attendees will be able to:
- Understand the three states of moisture
- Identify the moisture, thermal and pressure boundary of buildings
- Identify how to differentiate moisture movement in buildings
- How to evaluate buildings and how they are affected by moisture
- Identify how to inspect and evaluate the causes of moisture in attics

How to Inspect and Evaluate HVAC Distribution Systems (3 CE Hours) The instructor will teach the student all of the aspects of inspecting and evaluating the installation of existing duct systems for heating and cooling in a residential building and their condition. He will also explain the ramifications of improperly designed and installed duct systems. Discussion of hydronic hot water systems will also be evaluated.
We will discuss Manual J, S and D loads and design of a duct system, as well as evaluating the energy efficiency of the systems, and why it is critical to moisture prevent issues found in the home.
The student will learn proper techniques of how these systems should be installed and the reasons for proper installation, in order to properly describe them to their client in a written report.

How to Inspect Energy Star Homes (6 CE Hours) After this course the attendee will be able to:
- Understand the differences between a house built to code Vs an Energy Star house
- Review the checklist used to verify Energy Star standards
- Discuss and review a Manual J calculation
- Learn the differences of the standards used
- Be able to evaluate the difference components of Energy Star houses
- Know the additional requirements and how to inspect these differences
- Know the efficiencies of each system and how they interact
- Understand the requirements for additional ventilation requirements

HOW TO PERFORM MANUAL J LOAD CALCULATIONS (3 CEU’s) This class is designed to teach students about ramifications of oversizing Central Air systems and what to look for during the inspection. It will also explain how they should be installed, and the problems found when improperly located. The student will learn proper installation, location and design of the duct system as well as the inside and outside units. They will learn what to look for and inspect the installation and provide information for the client. The student will learn the information required to perform a load calculation and the reasoning for these calculations.
