AI and Emerging Technologies in Education Specialist Mini-Certificate

 This online certificate equips educators with foundational knowledge in artificial intelligence (AI) and explores the application of horizon technologies like data science, extended reality (XR), and more within educational settings. Designed for educators at all levels, the program delves into the basics of AI, teaching participants how these cutting-edge technologies can be integrated into their teaching practices to enhance learning and engagement. Participants will emerge from the program ready to innovate in their classrooms and beyond, applying the latest technological advancements to support and transform education.

 This is a 9 credit certificate with the following three courses:

 Course 1: Foundations of AI in Educational Technology

Description: fundamental concepts of how AI can be integrated into technology-enhanced learning environments. This course lays the groundwork for recognizing AI's capacity to transform educational practices. Participants will delve into AI technologies, human-centered design principles, and cognitive science as they relate to learning, setting the stage for innovative instructional design. Key Topics: Introduction to AI technologies, principles of human-centered design, cognitive science in learning. Outcomes: Develop a robust understanding of the core technologies and theoretical underpinnings of AI applications in education.

Course 2:  AI and Data Science for Empowering Educators 

Description: This online, asynchronous course offers a professional development opportunity for educators to deepen their understanding of AI and data science. Participants will explore key concepts in AI and data analytics, and learn how to apply these tools to enhance curriculum design, boost student engagement, and improve educational outcomes. This course equips educators with the knowledge and skills to confidently implement cutting-edge technologies in their classrooms, creating a more dynamic and effective learning environment.

Course 3:  Leveraging AI Tools and Emerging Technology for Fostering Collaborative Learning

Description: This course explores the dynamic integration of AI tools and emerging technologies to enhance collaborative learning environments. Educators will learn how to effectively utilize technologies such as collaborative AI platforms, cloud-based tools, and social media to foster interactive and cooperative learning experiences. The course highlights practical strategies for implementing these tools to increase student interaction, promote teamwork, and enhance communication among diverse groups.

Please note when searching for the term select "2025 Summer I Institute" (courses start before July 1) "Summer II Institute" (courses start after July 1) as the term drop down.  If you put in the term '2025 Summer" it will include the non-discounted courses that you are not eligible to take.

Plan of Study
Courses are offered during the summer and can be taken in any order. There are no prerequisites, but a Master’s degree is required to enroll.

Course Modality
Courses are asynchronous online.

Online asynchronous course content is delivered online with no required virtual or instructional site meetings.   The course has a start date and end date, but no set time you must log on to the course.  You must log on to Canvas on the first day of class and continue to do so on a regular basis to complete assignments and participate in discussions in the time allotted by the professor.

 Upon registration, students receive a Molloy email account and access to Canvas for assignments and course materials.

Once you have registered for your first course, you will be emailed a Molloy email account. Once you receive your Molloy email account, please follow the instructions in the email to set-up your permanent account. (If you do not receive the email within 3 business days of registering for your first course please check your spam folder or contact Krista Lombardo at klombardo@molloy.edu. You can log in at: www.molloy.edu/canvas using your permanent Username and Password. Once you log in to your Canvas account you can look up the any assignments that the instructor may have posted. It is strongly suggested that you become more familiar with using Canvas by reading the Canvas quickstart page at: https://resources.instructure.com/courses/32/pages/canvas-student-quickstart 

Registration Procedure
There are no traditional deadlines, and you can apply at any time. The registration process is simple, with no application fee or GRE requirement. All registrations are conducted online.

New students will complete an online application/registration form and receive login credentials within 1-2 business days. Early registration is encouraged, as courses fill quickly.
