Professional Development Workshops

Rationale for the Professional Workshop Requirement

Professional development and growth involves combining academic theory with educational performance. Teacher candidates at Molloy University are reflective practitioners who learn to continually evaluate the effects of their choices and actions on others (students, parents and other professionals in the learning community) and who actively seek out opportunities to grow professionally (INTASC principle #9). The teacher candidates who complete Molloy University’s teacher preparation programs are distinguished by their ability to exemplify and promote core values in their teaching. These dispositions, which will have an impact on student learners, will be demonstrated as the candidate:

  1. Believes all children can learn.
  2. Embodies a mindset that embraces diversity of identity, thought, and experience.
  3. Understands and applies ethical standards, relevant laws, and policies to carry out professional responsibilities and duties.
  4. Advocates and supports implementation of social justice practices that ensure equitable education experiences for all students.
  5. Cultivates intellectual, social and emotional student growth.
  6. Engages in reflective practice that incorporates research, assessment, and a comprehensive understanding that is able to meet the needs of diverse learners.
  7. Demonstrates commitment, enthusiasm and passion for teaching and learning.
  8. Creates, maintains, and sustains a safe and supportive learning environment.
  9. Recognizes the importance of being a lifelong learner to enhance personal and professional growth.
  10. Seeks opportunities for collaborative engagement of all educational stakeholders to promote learner development and education success.
