    Education Technology Graduate Programs

What is Educational Technology in K-12 Education and Beyond

Educational technology has changed the way students learn in the 21st century. It has helped change how teachers differentiate instruction and allows for student-centered learning. Students are more engaged in their learning using digital-age tools and are producers of their content using tools to communicate and collaborate effectively. The role of educational technology has been immersed in all classes since the introduction of the 1:1 initiative. Effective online teaching has assisted teachers in providing learning opportunities that are engaging, meaningful, and equitable. Using advanced integration models such as Universal Design for Learning (UDL), Technology Pedagogy and Content Knowledge (TPACK), and the Substitution Augmentation Modification and Redefinition (SAMR) model, teachers are well prepared to design, develop, and improve their teaching and learning for their students.

In alignment with the National Educational Technology Plan, the International Society in Technology Education ISTE Standards, Computer Science and Digital Fluency Standards, Professional Development Standards, and Next Generation Standards, it is essential to prepare educators for meaningful and effective educational technology integration. Master's of Science in Educational Technology provides coursework in foundations of educational technology, professional applications, and appropriately integrating those into teaching and learning, technology leadership, and program development.

Our program provides candidates the means to be New York State Certified as an Educational Technology Specialist to both certified teachers and bachelor candidates as initial certification. For certified teachers, this master's can enhance your content area teaching. Still, it also allows you to teach digital literacy technology curriculum to K-12 students and provide professional development support to educators in integrating educational technology into everyday teaching. For initial certification, you can apply for this master's with the only requirement of a bachelor's degree in any area.

Other Professional Roles related to a Master's in Educational Technology have been:

    • Teachers of Educational Technology
    • Coordinators of Educational Technology and School Administrators for Educational Technology
    • STEM Teachers and Coordinators
    • Curriculum Designers and Developers
    • Instructional Designers for Technology
    • Technology Coordinators and Facilitators
    • Online and Hybrid Pre-K-12 teachers
