Safety Tips On Campus


  • THE "DOs"

    • DO learn Public Safety Command Center phone number: 516-323-3500.
    • DO report immediately to Public Safety any suspicious person or circumstances anywhere on campus.
    • DO lock your car doors when you leave your vehicle unattended and take anything of value with you or place them out of sight, preferably in the trunk.
    • DO learn the locations of the numerous Blue Light Emergency Call Boxes on campus.
    • DO familiarize yourself with the locations of emergency exits in any building that you are in on campus.
    • DO familiarize yourself with the locations of the emergency phones in any building that you are in on campus.
    • DO familiarize yourself with the services offered by Public Safety such as car lock out, battery jumps, safety escorts and shuttle services.
    • DO register your vehicle and get a parking permit from Public Safety.
    • DO get your Molloy University I.D. card from Public Safety.
    • DO wear your Molloy I.D. at any Molloy location.
    • DO register for the RAVE Emergency notifications.
    • DO drop in and see us any time, we are in the Maria Regina Hall Annex.

  • THE "DON'Ts"

    • DON’T leave books, jackets, backpacks or other personal items of value unattended anywhere on campus.
    • DON’T lend your keys, your I.D., or your credit cards to anyone.
    • DON’T speed while on campus.
    • DON’T park in places that are not clearly posted parking locations.
    • DON’T go into locations/circumstances that you do not feel safe about. If in doubt call 911 or Public Safety.
    • DON’T be afraid/embarrassed to ask for help, that is why we are here

Safety Tips Off Campus


  • SUBWAYS AND TRAINS

    • Know where you are going before you enter transit system. Use MTA, LIRR apps depending on train, for current schedules
    • Have your Omny Pay/Metro-card ready so you can swiftly get through the turnstile.
    • Stand back from the platform edge, preferably close to the wall but at least behind the yellow line on the platform. During off-peak hours wait near station agent.
    • Do not lean over platform edge or go onto the tracks for any reason. If you drop something on tracks tell a police officer or an MTA official.
    • Watch the gap when boarding and exiting the train, please watch for the gap between station and platform as they can be large at times.
    • Avoid empty train cars. Try to sit in the first car, where train operator is located, or the middle car, where train conductor is located.
    • Be mindful of your personal belongings such as pocketbooks, backpacks, bookbags and especially electronic devices such as cellphones and headphones.
    • Whenever possible, travel with others. There is safety in numbers.
    • Do not sleep on train. Nearly 25 % of subway thefts occur to sleeping passengers.
    • Trust your instincts. If you feel something is not right, then remove yourself from the location and call for assistance if necessary.

  • WALKING CITY STREETS

    • Walk confidently at a steady pace on the side of the street facing traffic.
    • Walk in groups whenever possible. There is safety in numbers.
    • Always be alert to your surroundings and aware of the people around you.
    • Do not give all your attention and bury yourself in your cellphone.
    • Do not cover both ears with headphones or place ear-pods in both ears. Avoid listening to loud music on headphones/ear-pods.
    • Avoid late night travel when possible. If you must be out late night stay in well-lit areas as much as possible.
    • Trust your instincts. If you feel something is not right, then remove yourself from the location and call for assistance if necessary
