Nursing Students Earn Golden Ticket
Northwell Health’s Golden Ticket Nursing Showcase kicked off 2023 with an amazing experience for Molloy Nursing students Arianna Drudi, Marcela Fiona Dorrani, and Katelin Sarich.
Northwell Health, a Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For and New York State’s largest private employer and healthcare provider, offers “golden tickets” to only the top students of select Colleges of Nursing.
The Showcase offers junior and senior nursing students the chance to hear from Northwell’s senior nursing and academic leadership teams, and the opportunity to learn more about nursing careers across the continuum of care, as well as emerging career options.
Students can join one of many interactive breakout sessions on a variety of topics, such as résumé writing and interview skills; connect with recruiters to learn more about the numerous exciting careers across Northwell’s 20+ hospitals and more than 850 outpatient and other facilities; and experience Northwell’s Culture Center such as Diversity and Health Equity, the Institute for Nursing, the Center for Learning and Innovation, Magnet culture, and much more.
During the event, Molloy’s Arianna Drudi was able to network with Northwell employees from all different hospital locations and units. She particularly liked that she was able to talk to the managers and employees one-on-one and loved how kind everyone was and how comfortable they made her feel.
“You can only make a limited amount of impact with a résumé and cover letter,” stated Drudi, “but actually being able to talk to the recruiters and staff in person makes a world of difference. They can then recognize you by name and face, which is extremely important with being a prospective employee. I hope to one day be an employee of Northwell!”
The main interaction that made an impression on Marcela Fiona Dorrani was seeing the Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist and his colleagues attend the event in their work attire, presenting the image of a healthcare hero. Dorrani explained, “That made me feel so much more comfortable and confident. The career that we go into as nurses does not start and end in the workplace; we are lifelong nonstop healthcare workers who strive to help others in the best way we can.”
Katelin Sarich enjoyed that multiple Molloy alumni were speakers at the event, such as Associate Executive Director of Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer at Cohen Children’s Medical Center Margaret Duffy, and Senior Director of Clinical Professional Development for Northwell Health Kathleen Casler. Sarich gushed, “These women were extremely inspirational and even gave the Molloy student group a shout-out!”
Northwell Health Human Resource Director Ellen Lorenz said that the 2023 event held on January 11th at the Crest Hollow Country Club was the 15th annual Showcase and the first time in two years that it was held in person.
“It was very exciting to have it in person again,” Lorenz said. “Every specialty and service line was represented, and it was a huge success!” She expects next year’s Showcase to be even bigger and is pleased to not only partner with Molloy, but to have so many Molloy students working in the Northwell Healthcare System.
