Diversity Celebrated Through the Arts: Fourth Annual Event Set for May
Each year nearly 300 people come out to Molloy’s Madison Theatre to support and be a part of The Rebecca Center for Music Therapy’s Unity Through Diversity- the Arts Experience.
Created by The Rebecca Center for Music Therapy, Unity Through Diversity is truly a monumental evening featuring artists of ALL abilities and backgrounds expressing themselves via music, dance, poetry, self-advocacy storytelling and visual artistry. The expression of the human spirit exudes in rare and artistic form. All proceeds benefit the Rebecca Center Client Scholarship Fund, a fund which provides scholarship to clients in need to support access to music therapy services at The Center.
On May 5th of this year, The Rebecca Center will host its fourth Annual Unity Through Diversity event. “I always look forward to this event!” said Diana N. Abourafeh, MS, MT-BC, Board Certified Music Therapist for The Center. “The preparation for it takes time and hard work. But it’s of great value for artists to see their hard work displayed and for performers to express live on stage, each sharing their authentic selves in a place that is accepting and celebrating of all abilities.
“And the energy in the space is like no other! Each year we find ways of improving upon and expanding on what we’ve done the year before. I’m particularly excited to pass along the MC role to neurodivergent-identifying individuals so that the event itself is more neurodivergent-led! The roar of the crowd and applause after they perform is a clear celebration of their authenticity and freedom of self.”
The event is open to the public and runs from 6 P.M.- 8 P.M. For tickets call 516.323.4444 or visit www.madisontheatreny.org.
