Your Journey to a Communication Degree


As an incoming first-year student interested in pursuing a degree in communication, we invite you to share your journey, experiences, and aspirations in a 350-word essay. This essay should provide insight into your passion for communication and how your experiences have prepared you for this field. Please ensure your essay addresses the following questions:

    • What inspired you to pursue a degree in communication?
    • How did your interest in communication develop over time?
    • Describe a specific volunteer experience that enhanced your communication skills.
    • What did you learn about the role of communication in building community and fostering understanding?
    • Discuss any professional work experience related to communication (internships, part-time jobs, etc.).
    • Have you participated in any creativity contests (writing, storytelling, art, etc.)? If so, describe one contest and your experience.
    • What specific aspects of communication are you most excited about studying in college?
    • How will you use your communication degree to impact your community or field of interest positively?
    • Why do you believe you are a strong candidate for this scholarship?

Essay Formatting Guidelines:

  • Length: The essay must be 350 words.
  • Font and Size: Use a standard font (e.g., Times New Roman, Arial) and a font size of 12 points.
  • Spacing: Double-space your essay.
  • Margins: Use 1-inch margins on all sides.
  • File Format: Submit your essay as a PDF or Word document to tkenny@molloy.edu for review.
