The Clinical Learning Center (CLC) is open to all Molloy nursing students for hands-on practice of nursing skills required for class, clinical and simulation. The expectation is that each student is self-directed and utilizes laboratory time to their personal advantage. Nursing lab instructors are available to reinforce, remediate and answer questions regarding hands-on skills and simulation.

Mission Statement of the Clinical Learning Center and Simulation Center

As an integral part of the School of Nursing, the CLC is committed to create an environment fostering excellence in nursing practice. The CLC Nursing Lab Instructors and Simulation Facilitators encourage safe, responsible, ethical, and evidence-based practice for all undergraduate and graduate nursing students.

  • Clinical Skills Lab

    • Nursing lab instructors are competent and knowledgeable in all skills reviewed in the laboratory environment. Each instructor has professional expertise across varied clinical settings, and each brings a wealth of knowledge to every student encounter.
    • Nursing lab instructors work collaboratively with each student, individually or in group settings to master nursing skills essential for competent practice at two sites: the main campus in the Barbara H. Hagan School of Nursing, Rockville Centre, and at the Suffolk campus on Route 110.
    • The lab environment encourages students to partake in hands-on open practice sessions across all program levels. See hours below.

  • Clinical Simulation Lab

    • Molloy University has received recognition from International Nursing Association for Clinical and Simulation Learning (INACSL) for providing best practices in the delivery of simulation learning. Endorsement indicates excellence in the Healthcare Simulation Standards™ for Prebriefing, Facilitation, Professional Integrity and Debriefing.
    • CLC facilitators are simulationists who have achieved competency in simulation-based education, expertly guiding students through different clinical scenarios.
    • Technology and evidence-based practice promotes confidence, competence, and critical thinking skills.
    • Molloy University’s Simulation program provides interactive opportunities allowing the student to bridge theory to practice in a safe, nurturing, learning environment.

  • Appointment Guidelines for Skill Competency/Evaluation

    • Scheduled skill evaluation appointments are required at the CLC Rockville Centre Campus. Appointments are available up to 24 hours in advance in the Molloy University Acuity Scheduling System. (molloy.as.me)
    • The appointment schedule will open on Fridays at 4 p.m. for the following week. Only one week at a time will be posted. Students may call the CLC desk at (516) 323-3742 to inquire about available open time slots for that day only.
    • Students are requested to make only one appointment to demonstrate skill competency at the RVC campus.
    • Students may make additional appointments after they attend the scheduled appointment.
    • Students may cancel an appointment electronically within the Acuity Scheduling system up to 24 hours before the appointment time by clicking on the email confirmation link received for the appointment. If a student needs to cancel an appointment with less than 24 hours’ notice, contact the CLC desk at (516) 323-3742.
    • Students who repeatedly miss appointments without cancelling are not permitted to make future appointments using the on-line scheduling system. These students must call the CLC desk at (516) 323-3742, Monday through Friday to make an appointment on that day.
    • The CLC reserves the right to adjust the schedule based on evolving circumstances.

  • Skill Competency/Evaluation Demonstration

    • Skill demonstration/evaluation: students cannot be evaluated on the same day the skill is demonstrated in class or if reviewed with supervision by an nursing lab instructor in the CLC.
    • Students who are unsuccessful will be immediately informed by the nursing lab instructor and remediated on the skill. Students may not re-test on the same day. A student is permitted to be evaluated a second time with a different nursing lab instructor on a subsequent day. If the student is unsuccessful after a second evaluation the nursing lab instructor will notify the student’s professor for follow-up protocol.

  • Student Responsibilities

    • All nursing students are expected to follow the Essential and Professional Behaviors as outlined in Molloy University Nursing Student Handbooks.
    • CLC sessions are designated for hands-on-practice only.
    • Students participate in maintaining a clean clinical environment by wiping down assigned bedside area, returning equipment to designated location, and reporting any issues to CLC staff.
