What Will You Learn?


The program provides the foundation for aspiring nurse educators to perform competently as educational leaders. It combines the principles of adult learning theories, instructional methods, academic assessment and evaluation, and curriculum development. 


Across three graduate core courses, students will explore: 


  • Advocacy: In this program, advocacy is a key component as students learn to promote the needs of patients and the nursing profession. It positions nurses as leaders in health policy changes, patient rights, and improved healthcare systems.
  • Ethical responsibilities: Ethical studies focus on nursing educators’ moral and ethical duties. Students explore ethical dilemmas in healthcare, develop advanced decision-making skills, and learn to incorporate ethical principles into their teaching and practice.
  • Nursing Principles: The course reinforces core nursing principles while expanding on the educator's role. It covers inclusive nursing concepts and prepares students to teach and mentor the next generation of nurses.
  • Organization Theory: Organization theory teaches students the structure and functioning of healthcare institutions. Students learn how organizational environments affect nursing practice and education, and how to navigate and influence these dynamics as educators.
  • Academic Research: Students will engage in research projects to further their understanding of nursing education. The program teaches how to conduct and apply research to improve educational outcomes and nursing practice.
Evidence-Based Practice: Evidence-based practice educates on how current best evidence is used to make intelligent patient care and teaching decisions. Students learn to critically evaluate research and integrate evidence into their teaching and clinical practice.
