Students with Disabilities All Grades

New York State is offering a new certification, Students With Disabilities - All Grades.  This certification will allow the teacher holding this certification to be certified in prekindergarten through grade 12 in the area of special education.  This new certification will provide certified teachers with many exciting opportunities to work with students with disabilities at a variety of grade levels and in a variety of settings.  While NYS is phasing out the special education certifications in the developmental levels of 1-6 and 7-12 over the next few years, Molloy University can offer the SWD-All grades certification to candidates graduating in May 2024 and beyond.

Students with Disabilities Master’s of Science

The Students with Disabilities programs at Molloy University prepares students to engage in a dynamic career of teaching and learning with diverse populations. Our teacher certification programs lead to dual degrees preparing graduates to teach students with and without disabilities in a variety of school settings.  Our commitment to authentic teaching and learning practices in course work and field experiences thoroughly trains students with essential skills for the rigorous demands and responsibilities of teachers. In return, students who become teachers will experience a rewarding career positively impacting the lives of students.

The Students with Disabilities Programs provide a wide array of innovative opportunities to develop knowledge, skills and dispositions to meet the needs of students with and without disabilities. Our programs include experiential components such as three phases of supervised fieldwork, authentic experiences in and out of the classroom setting, project based group work, and community outreach opportunities.  Our focus on training teachers to address their future students’ academic and social emotional functioning is paramount and achieved through coursework, practicums, workshops, research projects.

The Students with Disabilities Programs are involved in the Mother Cabrini Health foundation Regional Grant.  The Program provides free Social Emotional Learning/English language arts enrichment programs to partnership schools.  Molloy University students can apply for scholarships to participate in this exciting program to address barriers and socioeconomic disparities.
