Create your own major by choosing two areas of interest and combining them into one degree

The Interdisciplinary Studies major allows students who are interested in a broad liberal arts education to select two concentrations that meet their needs and interests to obtain a bachelor’s degree. Under the direction of the Program Director and Departmental Chairs, you can create your own major by choosing two areas of interest and combining them into one degree program of specialization that enables you to earn either a B.A. or B.S. degree. The Interdisciplinary major has both in person and online degree completion options.

Earn a B.S. or B.A. degree

The Interdisciplinary Studies major allows you to customize your course of study and as a result, you can earn either a B.A. or B.S. degree

  • B.A. degree option

    The B.A. degree option allows you to earn a bachelor in arts by choosing two concentration areas that satisfy the requirements for a B.A. degree.

  • B.S. degree option

    The B.S. degree option allows you to earn a bachelors in science by choosing two concentration areas that satisfy the requirements for a B.S. degree.

Considerations for Declaring the Interdisciplinary Studies Major:

During the first year at Molloy or at any time thereafter, a highly motivated student desiring admittance to the Interdisciplinary Studies major can declare areas of concentration with the Program Director for this major. The candidate will present a rationale that has internal coherence. This rationale must demonstrate that the student has a unique goal, that will benefit from a customizable major. Approval for the student to proceed as a major in Interdisciplinary Studies will be decided by the Program Director for Interdisciplinary Studies. In the event of a conflict, the final decision will be made by the Vice President for Academic Affairs. Transfer students will be required to take 9-12 credits of the required credits for each area of concentration on the Molloy campus.

Interdisciplinary Studies majors can combine concentrations from multiple discipline options across the liberal arts like Psychology, Biology, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Communications, Legal Studies, and Business. You can also pursue your passion for teaching by combining Interdisciplinary Studies with Childhood Education for a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary/Childhood Education by taking courses in English, History, Theology, Philosophy or Health Service Leadership. 

Engage in scholarly research in the Interdisciplinary Seminar

Under the guidance of our respected, expert faculty, you will use your knowledge and in-depth research skills to create a final seminar, paper or project. Through the discipline of this program you will strengthen your ability to write effectively about your knowledge, skills and values - all shaped by the stimulating integrative process of Interdisciplinary Studies.
