What To Expect From a Media Concentration at Molloy
In the Communications Department, you'll find a 42-credit program in media, tailored to prepare you for careers in television and film. This program seamlessly integrates theoretical studies with hands-on production courses. You'll explore the cultural and social significance of media while gaining practical expertise in our state-of-the-art television studio, equipped with high-definition technology.
Throughout your journey, you'll create various forms of video content, from news stories to sitcoms, movies, and documentaries. With a specialized degree in media, you'll unlock a world of career opportunities, including roles like producer, director, showrunner, scriptwriter, camera operator, broadcast journalist, and video editor and more.
As part of the program, Communication majors like yourself will complete internships with media companies, where you'll apply the skills learned in the classroom to real-world professional settings.
Our State-of-the-Art TV Media Spaces
TV Studio
Explore the heart of creativity in the lower level of Wilbur Arts (Room W017) at Molloy University, where our advanced television studio awaits. Equipped with top-of-the-line high definition and 4K cameras, tripods, and an ETC lighting grid/board, students have the canvas to bring their visions to life. Plus, with ample space for set construction, imagination knows no bounds.
Step into the adjacent room (W016) and immerse yourself in our control room, where innovation meets precision. Here, students command high-definition equipment including an audio board, switcher for live editing, an AjA Ki Pro for digital recording, a Chyron character generator, and a Samsung Smart TV for captivating multi-screen viewing experiences.
Podcast Studio
Housed in the lower level of Casey (C04) the Communications Department’s media lab, the podcast studio boasts six microphone stations where you can produce audio shows. Whether working solo or engaging in group discussions with guests, you have the freedom to explore diverse formats. The studio is equipped with essential tools including an audio mixer and digital recording unit, empowering you to unleash your creativity in the world of podcasting.
Media Lab
Located in the lower level of Wilbur Arts (Room W004), just around the corner from the television studio, you'll find the Communications Department’s media lab. Here, 24 iMac computers await for post-production tasks. Utilize this space to edit your film and television productions using industry-standard software such as Avid Media Composer, Final Cut Pro, and Adobe Premiere Pro. Additionally, explore a suite of software, including Adobe Creative Suite (e.g., PhotoShop, After Effects, etc.), Final Draft, and Microsoft Office, among others, to empower your creative excellence.
What Does a Media Communications Degree Offer?
As a Communications major at Molloy, you will have the opportunity to:
- Develop the necessary competence and knowledge required for media and professional industries.
- Demonstrate critical reading and thinking skills in both print and digital materials, including research and analytics.
- Conduct scholarly research at an advanced level and analyze the findings resulting from the methodology.

Undergraduate Admissions Criteria
Admission to Molloy University requires a high school grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Specific entrance requirements include graduation from high school or equivalent with 20.5 units, comprising of:
- English - 4
- Foreign Language - 3
- Mathematics - 3
- Social Studies - 4
- Science - 3
If you’re home-schooled, you must obtain a letter from your local school district officials confirming that you’ve received a "substantially equivalent" education to district high school students or take and pass a Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC), formally known as a GED.

A Simple Process for Transfer Applicants
Transfer students are welcome into this program! If you’re a transfer student, you must send official transcripts from your previous accredited institution/s and can arrange credit evaluation interviews before applying. If you lack an Associate’s Degree or higher, you’ll need to provide a high school transcript for proof of graduation.
