Professional Communications, Television and Media Production, and New Media and Digital Humanities Workshop for High School Teachers

Please join us at Molloy University on Friday, March 10, 2023 from 8:00 a.m. - 3 p.m. to attend a New Media and Digital Writing Workshop for High School Teachers which will be held in the Hagan Center, Room 239 (second floor) on the Rockville Centre campus.
 
New Media at Molloy University empowers students to become digital media professionals, savvy users of emergent media and engaged digital citizens.  The workshop is designed to enhance existing pedagogy and approaches to new and digital media in the high school classroom. Professors Dr. Thomas Kenny, Dr. Max Renner, Dr. Sarah Evans and Dr. Janice Kelly will instruct teachers on contemporary new media and digital writing lessons and classroom approaches. The Communications Department offers three tracks for incoming students: Professional Communications, Television and Media Production, and New Media and Digital Humanities. The following workshop introduces each concentration to high school teachers, along with touring our facilities. 6 CTLE hours offered!
 
This conference is open to all high school teachers interested in learning or refining their knowledge of new media and digital writing skills for classroom use. The $30 fee includes lunch and handouts.
 

Agenda:

8 a.m. - 9:40 a.m. - We will showcase three examples of virtual reality for classroom settings. The three examples range from simpler, more cost efficient technologies to more advanced and expensive forms of digital technology, in order to demonstrate the range of skills that these options offer for engaging in virtual reality development and storytelling. These immersive teaching strategies will feature demos of each technology and discussions about how to use this in individual participant's classroom.

9:40 a.m.  – 10:00 a.m. – Break

10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. - We will present ways to introduce media and television production methods to your students using mobile devices. Topics include basic camera operation, audio, and lighting techniques. We will also examine interactive lessons in the classroom for mobile journalism and storytelling. In addition, we will view clips from classic and modern productions for film and television analysis.

12 p.m. – 1 p.m. – Lunch (included in your  tuition)

1 p.m. – 3 p.m. - We will discuss ways for your students identify their career goals and find a meaningful internship in their field of interest.  Topics include resume writing skills and interviewing techniques. In addition, we will explore the skills needed in public relations, advertising, and event planning and examine future career trends in their areas.

CTLE Credit

This conference is approved for 6 hours of Continuing Teacher and Leader Education (CTLE). Click here for further information on the new CTLE requirements.

Fee and Registration
The conference fee is $30. Registration is required.
