Summer Institute for Teachers

Interested in expanding your subject area knowledge, exploring new subject material or adding to your teaching tool kit? Look no further, Molloy University has what you are looking for. This summer you will be able to enroll in courses to build your knowledge in various content areas and to improve your instructional skills. The Institutes described in the pages that follow may be taken for 3 graduate credits ($945 per Institute) or on a non-credit basis for 2 in-service credits (AP courses only, $850 per AP Institute). Our Summer Institutes are offered in a variety of online and in-person (Rockville Centre campus or Suffolk Center in Amityville) intensive formats. Course descriptions, along with the schedule of classes, tuition rates, travel directions, application and registration information can be found by clicking on the links below.

The location or format of the class will be indicated next to the course title. Asynchronous courses will not be taught in "real time", meaning that teachers do not have to log in and attend at a given time. You can log on at any time to take the course. Once you have registered for the course, an account will be set-up in Canvas for you to use, usually within one working day of your registration and you will be emailed instructions on taking the course online.

These graduate courses are part of our graduate education master's degree program at Molloy. The summer schedule is just a more intensive schedule than our fall or spring semester schedule of classes. The courses are all part of our graduate course offerings in the Division of Education and can be used by students as an elective towards our Master of Science degree in Education. The online courses are all listed with the course code, EDU 5900. Each course is a 3-credit graduate course and is approved as such by the New York State Department of Education.

The general course description can be found on our website at: https://molloy.smartcatalogiq.com/2023-2024/graduate-catalog/courses/edu-education/ Since this is a special topics course, the specific course descriptions differ depending upon the topic. The description of the EDU 5900 courses offered can be found under the topic areas below..

The tuition is discounted to $945 per course for teachers who already have a master's degree and are enrolled in a Molloy master's degree.  Students taking the courses as part of the master's degree must pay the regular rate of tuition.

The Summer Institutes are generally offered during the months of June, July and August. The course descriptions, schedule of classes and tuition rates are generally available by late winter/early spring each year.

CTLE Credit
Each 3-credit graduate course is approved for 45 hours of Continuing Teacher and Leader Education (CTLE). Click here for further information on the CTLE requirements.

The Summer Institutes for Teachers are broken-down into three main categories: Summer Institutes for Teachers (Non-AP)Advanced Placement (AP) Summer Institutes and National Grid Foundation - Teaching Green Institute Grant Program (TGI) as follows:

- National Grid Foundation - Teaching Green Institute Grant Program (TGI) (pending grant approval for 2024)

Molloy University and the National Grid Foundation continue an innovative institute  that was founded in 2011: The Molloy University: National Grid Foundation Teaching Green Institute (TGI). TGI is designed to train middle school and high school teachers in environmental issues and to provide suggestions on incorporating environmentally focused curricula into their classrooms.

We will offer two institutes for 2024, one for middle school teachers and one for high school teachers.

The Institutes may be taken as a 3 credit graduate course or on a non-credit basis. The institutes offered in 2024 will cover new topics not covered in the 2023 institutes.

We plan to send out an email in late April 2024 to teachers who have taken the institutes in the past, as well as to teachers who are in our summer institutes data base.
