Climate Smart Communities
The Sustainability Institute works in partnership with IMEG, under a contract with the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) to coordinate the Climate Smart Communities (CSC) program on Long Island.
The CSC program encourages local governments to plan for climate change and mitigate their greenhouse gas emissions. Sustainability Institute staff provides technical assistance to local governments to help them engage in the program. In Nassau and Suffolk, 32 communities have registered in the program by adopting the Climate Smart Pledge, and nine are Certified Climate Smart Communities, eight Bronze Certified and one Silver Certified.
