Vice President for Finance and Treasurer


Molloy University, a Catholic and Dominican institution on Long Island, invites applicants for the position of Vice President for Finance and Treasurer. Reporting directly to the President, this individual will also serve as a key advisor to the Board of Trustees and will be a critical member of the President’s Cabinet. The Vice President will provide strategic oversight of all financial operations ensuring the financial integrity and sustainability of the University while fostering transparency and trust among all constituents.

Position Overview:

The Vice President for Finance and Treasurer will serve as the chief financial officer of the University with primary responsibility for managing Molloy’s financial resources, including oversight of budgeting, accounting, financial reporting, investments, risk management, auxiliary services and long-term financial planning as well as the leadership of the campus facilities departments and physical plant. The Vice President will collaborate closely with the Board of Trustees, senior leadership, staff and faculty to develop fiscal strategies that support the University’s mission and strategic goals.

A key aspect of this role is the ability to communicate complex financial concepts clearly and effectively to non-financial audiences. The successful candidate must possess exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to engage in transparent dialogue with various internal and external groups.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a strategic financial advisor to the President and Board of Trustees, providing regular analysis and reporting on the University’s financial position, risk factors and growth opportunities.
  • Lead the development and implementation of short and long-term financial planning that align with the University’s Strategic Plan.
  • Oversee all aspects of the University’s financial operations, including facilities, budgeting, financial reporting, investment management, compliance, risk management, auxiliary services, and payroll.
  • Lead and mentor a team of professionals, fostering collaboration and professional development within the division.
  • Effectively communicate financial performance, forecasts, and strategic financial plans to non-financial audiences, including trustees, faculty, staff and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with academic and administrative leaders to ensure that financial strategies support academic excellence, enrollment growth and capital improvements.
  • Ensure financial transparency, integrity, accountability throughout the University, fostering a culture of ethical decision-making and fiscal responsibility.
  • Maintain overall responsibility for maintenance and physical plant operations, including the upkeep and repair of university buildings, grounds and equipment, as well as the planning and implementation of capital projects.
  • Leads the ongoing development and implementation of the University's facilities plans to facilitate teaching and learning.
  • Practices sound stewardship or the institution's physical resources.
  • Supports the Board of Trustees’ Finance, Audit, Facilities, and Investment Committees, preparing presentations, reports, and analyses to inform decision making.

Qualifications:

  • A master's degree in finance, accounting, business administration or related field is required. CPA and/or other relevant certification is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years progressively responsible leadership experience in fiscal management with a preference for experience in higher education, or non-profit organizations.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex financial information effectively to non-financial audiences.
  • Strong financial acumen, with expertise in financial reporting, budgeting, investment management, and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • A collaborative leadership style, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively across diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and motivate a team of professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration and high performance.
  • Commitment to transparency, accountability, and ethical financial management.

Salary Information:

When determining the salary offer for a new employee, Molloy considers several key characteristics such as job knowledge, skills, and experience as well as internal and external equity. The hiring annual salary range for this position is $300,000 to $350,000.  This annual salary represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of compensation at the time of posting.
